"Heads Up For Safety"
On May 20, the MTLA Helmet Safety Campaign came to Lansing as part of the "Heads Up For Safety" coalition fitting 500 helmets from 10am to 2pm at the Marshall Street Fire Station.
In addition to MTLA, "Heads Up for Safety" includes the Sinas Dramis Law Firm, Origami Brain Injury Rehab, WB 5/ABC 53 and the Lansing Fire Department.
Each year MTLA's Helmet Safety Campaign raises money, purchases helmets, and hosts a series of events all over Michigan. The MTLA Helmet Safety Campaing has fitted over 13,500 helmetsto needy kids statewide.
In Lansing, the Kids Repair Program inspected and performed minor repairs on kids bike, local sports celebrity Hondo Carpenter (of Channel 53's "Hondo's House") was the MC and helped to give away eight new bicycles and some great sport's memorabilia. Cottage Inn pizza donated 30 pizzas for the volunteers and the kids.
The Lansing Fire Department and the great people at LFD Station #8 gave tours of the station and the fire trucks and even let lucky kids sit behind the wheel!
Lansing Mayor Virg Bernaro came out to the event, awarded a free bike, and talked to parents and kids about the importance of wearing their MTLA helmets.
