Lansing "Heads Up For Safety,"

May 20, 2006

On May 20, 2006 the MTLA Helmet Safety Campaign came to the Marshall St. Fire Station in Lansing with 500 MTLA helmets.

Thanks to the hard work of the Heads Up for Safety Coalition and the MTLA Coalition/Community Action Committee, the Lansing MTLA Helmet Safety event has become one of our most successful.

Coverage by co-sponsor ABC 53/WB5 makes certain the event achives its full potetial, the Lansing City Sound Stage gives the event a focal point, the Kids Repair Program inspects and repairs bikes, local businesses bring in food, and agencies like the Mayor's office and Fire Department add valuable aspects to the event.

"Heads Up For Safety" is co-sponsored each year by the Sinas Dramis Law Firm, WB 5 and  ABC 53, Origami Brian Injury Rehabilitation, the Kids Repair Program and the Lansing Fire Department.

ABC 53 in Lansing was on hand to publicize the Helmet Safety Campaign

Over 500 kids and their families signed in and were fitted with free helmets!

Volunteers from the MTLA firm Sinas, Dramis, Brake, Boughton & McIntyre hand fitted 500 MTLA helmets under the shade of a row of tents in the grass outside the fire station.

Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero stopped by and was speaking with Kidrs Repair Program's Curt "Grandad" Eure.  Mayor Bernero also awarded one of the free bikes MTLA provided as door prizes.

Lansing Sports Celebrity Hondo Carpenter of ABC 53's "Hondo's House" was our MC, handing out 6 free bikes, a pile of sports memorabilia, and introducing visiting VIPS like Mayor Bernaro and representatives from the Lansing Police Department.

The Lansing event has become so popular that we opened a second sign in table this year.

The great folks at the Marshal Street Fire Station provided tours of the Fire Station and the fire trucks.
