2005 MTLA Helmet Safety Campaign

"Heads Up For Safety" Lansing

May 21, 2005

On May 21, 2005 MTLA hosted our 3rd annual Lansing Helmet Safety event, this year again at the Pleasant View Elementary School.

We had a very successful event, fitting over 200 helmets in partnership with the Sinas Dramis Law Firm, Origami Brain Injury Rehab, ABC 53 TV, and the Lansing School District.

State Senator Virg Bernero stopped by to award Rebecca Lang with a free bike for being the recipient of the Honorary 10,000th MTLA Helmet! And, yes, Senator Bernero is wearing an MTLA Helmet!

Local sports personality, ABC 53's Hondo Carpenter (Hondo's House) with Lansing Mayor Tony Benevides, center, reading a Proclamation declaring May 21, 2005 to be "Heads Up For Safety Day" in Lansing! MTLA Past President George Sinas, standing on the right, accepted the award.

Mayor Benevides was also fitted for an MTLA Helmet!

Kids lined up in front of the stage all day, waiting for prize drawings, listening to music and watching as various VIPs made their appearences.

The Lansing Fire Department came out, bringing a pumper truck to show off for the kids

The Kids Repair Program was on hand, inspecting and repairing bikes for kids who came to get helmets and participate in the Bike Safety rodeo.

MTLA Executive Board member Steve Hicks explains the intracacies of the "slow race" to these eager children.

MTLA Executive Board member L. Page Graves takes his classes on using hand signals very seriously

Thanks to local sports personality, ABC 53's Hondo Carpenter (Hondo's House) for MC'ing our event in Lansing!
