October 2015 MAJ Pacesetter
Since his earliest memory, Grand Rapids attorney Tom Behm has always wanted to be a trial lawyer and represent individuals who were injured or unfairly treated in our society. Both his father and grandfather were trial lawyers.
Behm has been a member of MAJ for more than 25 years, served on the MAJ Executive Board, and presented at several MAJ seminars. “MAJ has provided me with a wonderful network of people who share a common goal of seeking to obtain justice for their clients,” stated Behm. “MAJ provides invaluable resources to trial attorneys across the State of Michigan including seminars and educational programs that improve a trial lawyer’s skills and knowledge base. MAJ also provides opportunities for lawyers across the state to meet and discuss issues that many of us face in connection with our representation of injured and disadvantaged individuals.”
A monthly contributor to JUSTICE PAC, Behm believes that JUSTICE PAC provides vital support for important issues that affect everyone.
Behm stated, “I can think of no other profession that has the ability to positively and significantly affect the lives of injured and disadvantaged individuals. You never grow weary of seeing the tears of victory in your client’s eyes after obtaining a good result, large or small, for them.” He added, “Cases involving the representation of severely injured children have proved to be the most satisfying type of case for me. I have represented many injured children throughout my career. They have each left me with wonderful memories that I will never forget. The privilege of representing these types of clients has provided me with tremendous motivation to do everything in my power for them.”
Behm’s firm, Gruel, Mills, Nims & Pylman, PLLC, is likely the largest West Michigan plaintiff personal injury/medical malpractice firm. “Although we have handled plaintiff personal injury claims throughout the United States, the majority of our work involves people in West Michigan. We are blessed to have a wonderful support staff that includes talented paraprofessionals, a nurse and a physician. Our firm is over 30 years old and we have developed a reputation for obtaining excellent results for our clients. Our firm also has a good rapport with both state and federal judges throughout West Michigan.”
Behm greatly enjoys spending time with his wife and their three very talented and active children. “I spend as much time with them as possible. I also enjoy participating in all types of sports, and I’m an avid gardener and water color painter.”
Fagan has been married to his wife Marcia for almost 33 years and they have two adult sons. “I enjoy spending time with my family, playing golf, watching my beloved Spartans (Go Green!) and going to Tiger games.”
